Surah “The Event, The Inevitable, That Which is Coming”

as rendered by Talal Itani & AI (2025) — 96 verses

When the Inevitable Event strikes.
There will be no denying its occurrence.
Bringing low, raising high.
When the earth is shaken violently.
And the mountains are crushed to pieces.
Becoming scattered dust.
You will be sorted into three groups.
The People of the Right—what are the People of the Right?
The People of the Left—what are the People of the Left?
And the forerunners, the forerunners.
Those are the ones brought near.
In Gardens of Bliss.
A large company from the earlier generations.
And a few from the later ones.
On couches interlaced.
Reclining on them, facing one another.
Eternal youths will circulate among them.
With cups, pitchers, and a goblet from a flowing spring.
It causes no headache, nor does it intoxicate.
And fruits of their choosing.
And meat of birds they desire.
And companions with gorgeous eyes.
Like hidden pearls.
A reward for what they used to do.
They will hear no idle talk there, nor any sinful speech.
Only the words, "Peace, peace."
The People of the Right—what are the People of the Right?
Among thornless lote trees.
And clustered bananas.
And extended shade.
And flowing water.
And abundant fruit.
Never cut off, never forbidden.
And raised couches.
We have created them a special creation.
And made them virgins.
Loving, of equal age.
For the People of the Right.
A large company from the earlier generations.
And a large company from the later ones.
The People of the Left—what are the People of the Left?
In scorching wind and scalding water.
And shade of black smoke.
Neither cool nor refreshing.
They lived in luxury before this.
They persisted in the great sin.
They used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, will we really be resurrected?"
"And our ancient forefathers too?"
Say, "The earlier and the later generations."
"Will all be gathered for the appointment of a known Day."
Then you, the misguided deniers.
Will eat from the tree of Zaqqum.
Filling your bellies with it.
Then drinking scalding water on top of it.
Drinking like thirst-crazed camels.
This is their welcome on the Day of Judgment.
We created you, so why do you not believe?
Have you considered the sperm you emit?
Is it you who create it, or are We the Creators?
We have decreed death among you, and We will not be outdone.
We could replace you with others like you and bring you into existence in forms you do not know.
You already know the first creation, so why do you not reflect?
Have you considered what you sow?
Is it you who make it grow, or are We the Growers?
If We willed, We could turn it into chaff, and you would be left exclaiming.
"We are ruined!
No, we are deprived!"
Have you considered the water you drink?
Is it you who bring it down from the clouds, or are We the Bringers?
If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?
Have you considered the fire you kindle?
Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the Producers?
We made it a reminder and a provision for desert travelers.
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Magnificent.
I swear by the positions of the stars.
That is a mighty oath, if only you knew.
This is a noble Quran.
In a hidden Book.
None touch it except the purified.
A revelation from the Lord of all worlds.
Is it this message you take lightly?
You make your share of it denial?
Then why, when it reaches the throat.
While you are watching.
We are nearer to him than you, but you do not see.
Why then, if you are not subject to judgment.
Do you not bring it back, if you are truthful?
If he is among those brought near.
Then comfort, fragrance, and a Garden of Bliss.
If he is among the companions of the right.
Then peace to you from the companions of the right.
But if he is among the deniers, the misguided.
Then a welcome of scalding water.
And burning in Hell.
This is the certain truth.
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Magnificent.
