Getting the most out of IslamAwakened

Search IslamAwakened

Search across all translations, pages, and content on IslamAwakened:

How the Site Is Organized

Every verse in the Qur'an has a hub page — a single home base that shows you the Arabic text, a featured translation, audio, and clear links to every study tool available for that verse.

Think of the hub as a train station. You arrive, you see all your options, and you choose where to go. Every specialized page links back to the hub and across to the other tools, so you can always find your way.

Finding a Verse

Start at the Qur'an Index, which shows all 114 surahs as a card grid. Tap any surah to see its verses, then tap a verse number to reach its hub page.

If you already know the surah and verse number, you can go directly by typing the URL:

islamawakened.com/quran/2/255/

That takes you straight to Ayat al-Kursi (2:255). The pattern is always /quran/surah/verse/.

You can also use the search box at the top of this page to search for any word, phrase, or topic across the site.

Study Tools

Compare Translations

Every verse is available in over 70 English translations, grouped by category — traditional scholarly translations, modern accessible renderings, and specialized academic works. All translations are either public domain or included with the author's permission.

Word-by-Word Analysis

Each Arabic word is broken down individually with its translation, transliteration, grammatical analysis, and root. Available in two views: Parallel View (side-by-side columns) and Analysis View (flashcard-style blocks with full grammatical detail). Word-by-word is available in 6 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Turkish.

Root Concordance

Arabic words derive from roots, usually three letters. The root concordance pages show you every word derived from a root and every verse where it appears. This lets you trace a concept across the entire Qur'an — for example, finding every verse that uses a word from the root for “mercy” (ra-ha-mim).

Non-English Translations

Translations in over 20 languages including Azerbaijani, Bosnian, Chinese, Dutch, Farsi, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and others. You can compare all non-English translations for a single verse side by side, grouped by language.

Audio

Click the Arabic text on any hub page to hear the verse recited. Audio is available for all 6,236 verses.

Navigating the Site

Breadcrumbs

Every page shows a breadcrumb trail near the top (e.g., Home > Qur'an Index > al-Baqarah > 2:255). You can click any level to jump back up the hierarchy.

Previous / Next

Verse pages have previous and next arrows to move through the Qur'an sequentially. Surah pages have previous and next surah links at the bottom.

Keyboard Shortcuts

On verse pages, press to go to the previous verse and to go to the next verse.

Cross-Links

Every specialized page (translations, word-by-word, other languages) includes links to all the other study tools for the same verse, plus a link back to the hub. You don't need to go “back” to switch tools — just click across.

About IslamAwakened

IslamAwakened was created in 2003 by Waleed Kavalec, a convert to Islam and IT professional. It began as a way to compare a handful of English translations side by side and grew over two decades into the resource it is today — 70+ English translations, word-by-word analysis in 6 languages, root concordance, audio recitation, and translations in 20+ non-English languages.

The site has always been free and always will be. Only translations that are public domain or explicitly approved by the author or publisher are included.
