By the star when it descends.
Your companion has not strayed, nor has he been led astray.
He does not speak from his own desire.
It is nothing but revelation revealed.
One of immense power taught him.
One of great strength, who stood upright.
He was at the highest horizon.
Then he drew near and descended.
He was two bow-lengths away, or closer.
Then He revealed to His servant what He revealed.
The heart did not lie about what it saw.
Will you dispute with him over what he sees?
He saw him descend another time.
At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary.
Near it is the Garden of Refuge.
When there covered the Lote Tree what covered it.
The sight did not waver, nor did it overstep.
He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord.
Have you considered al-Lat and al-Uzza?
And Manat, the third, the other one?
Is the male for you and the female for Him?
That would be an unfair division.
These are nothing but names you and your fathers invented. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but speculation and what their souls desire, even though guidance has come to them from their Lord.
Or does man get whatever he wishes for?
To God belongs the Hereafter and this world.
How many angels are in the heavens whose intercession is of no benefit at all, except after God gives permission to whom He wills and approves.
Those who do not believe in the Hereafter give the angels female names.
They have no knowledge of this. They follow nothing but speculation, and speculation is no substitute for the truth.
So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our remembrance and desires nothing but the life of this world.
That is the extent of their knowledge. Your Lord knows best who has strayed from His path, and He knows best who is guided.
To God belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, so that He may repay those who do evil for what they have done, and reward those who do good with the best.
Those who avoid major sins and shameful acts, except for minor lapses. Your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He knew you best when He produced you from the earth and when you were embryos in your mothers' wombs. So do not claim purity for yourselves. He knows best who is mindful of Him.
Have you seen the one who turned away?
He gave a little, then stopped.
Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees?
Or has he not been told what is in the scriptures of Moses?
And Abraham, who fulfilled his duty?
That no soul bears the burden of another.
That a person gets only what they strive for.
That their striving will be seen.
Then they will be repaid for it in full.
That to your Lord is the final return.
That He is the One who makes people laugh and weep.
That He is the One who gives death and gives life.
That He created the two mates, male and female.
From a drop of fluid when it is emitted.
That upon Him rests the second creation.
That He is the One who enriches and satisfies.
That He is the Lord of Sirius.
That He destroyed the ancient Aad.
And Thamud, leaving none of them.
And the people of Noah before them, for they were more unjust and more tyrannical.
And the overturned cities, He hurled them down.
So there covered them what covered them.
So which of your Lord's blessings do you doubt?
This is a warner like the warners of old.
The approaching Hour draws near.
None but God can avert it.
Do you find this message astonishing?
You laugh and do not weep.
While you amuse yourselves heedlessly.
So prostrate to God and worship Him.
