Surah “Divorce”

as rendered by Talal Itani & AI (2025) — 12 verses

O Prophet, when you divorce women, divorce them at the start of their waiting period and count the waiting period carefully. Be mindful of God, your Lord. Do not expel them from their homes, nor should they leave, unless they commit a clear act of indecency. These are the limits set by God, and whoever oversteps God's limits has wronged himself. You never know: perhaps God will bring about something new after that.
When they reach the end of their waiting period, either keep them honorably or part with them honorably. Have two just witnesses from among you, and give your testimony for God. This is what those who believe in God and the Last Day are urged to do. Whoever is mindful of God, He will make a way out for him.
He will provide for him from sources he never expected. Whoever puts his trust in God, He is enough for him. God will accomplish His purpose. God has set a measure for everything.
For those of your women who have passed the age of menstruation, if you have any doubt, their waiting period is three months, as is the case for those who have not yet menstruated. For those who are pregnant, their term ends when they deliver. Whoever is mindful of God, He will make his affairs easy for him.
This is God's command that He has sent down to you. Whoever is mindful of God, He will erase his sins and magnify his reward.
House them where you live, according to your means, and do not harass them to make their lives difficult. If they are pregnant, spend on them until they deliver. If they nurse your child, pay them their wages. Consult together in a fair manner. But if you disagree, then another woman may nurse the child.
Let the wealthy man spend according to his wealth, and let the one whose provision is limited spend from what God has given him. God does not burden any soul beyond what He has given it. God will bring ease after hardship.
How many towns rebelled against the command of their Lord and His messengers, so We called them to a severe account and punished them with a terrible punishment.
They tasted the bitter consequence of their conduct, and the outcome of their conduct was total loss.
God has prepared for them a severe punishment. So be mindful of God, O people of understanding who have believed. God has sent down to you a reminder.
A messenger reciting to you God's verses, made clear, to bring those who believe and do good deeds out of darkness into light. Whoever believes in God and does good, He will admit him into gardens with rivers flowing beneath them, dwelling there forever. God has made excellent provision for him.
God is the One who created seven heavens and of the earth their like. His command descends through them so that you may know that God has power over all things and that God encompasses all things in knowledge.
