Surah “The Winnowing Winds, The Scatterers”

as rendered by Talal Itani & AI (2025) — 60 verses

By the scatterers scattering.
By those that carry a heavy burden.
By those that glide with ease.
By those that distribute the command.
What you are promised is true.
The Judgment will surely come to pass.
By the sky with its woven pathways.
You are in conflicting opinions.
Deluded away from it is whoever is deluded.
Destroyed are the liars.
Those who are drowning in ignorance, heedless.
They ask, "When is the Day of Judgment?"
The Day they will be tormented over the Fire.
"Taste your torment! This is what you were rushing toward."
Those who were mindful of God will be in gardens and springs.
Receiving what their Lord has given them. Before that, they were doers of good.
They used to sleep little of the night.
In the hours before dawn, they would seek forgiveness.
In their wealth was a rightful share for the beggar and the deprived.
On earth are signs for those with certainty.
And within yourselves. Do you not see?
In the sky is your provision and what you are promised.
By the Lord of the sky and the earth, it is as true as the fact that you speak.
Has the story of Abraham's honored guests reached you?
When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." He said, "Peace, unfamiliar people."
He slipped away to his family and returned with a fattened calf.
He placed it before them and said, "Will you not eat?"
He felt fear of them. They said, "Do not be afraid," and gave him good news of a knowledgeable son.
His wife came forward with a cry, struck her face, and said, "A barren old woman!"
They said, "So has your Lord decreed. He is the Wise, the All-Knowing."
He said, "What is your mission, O messengers?"
They said, "We have been sent to a criminal people."
To rain down upon them stones of clay.
Marked by your Lord for the transgressors.
So We brought out whoever was in it of the believers.
But We found in it only one household of those who had submitted.
We left there a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.
And in Moses, when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority.
But he turned away with his might and said, "A sorcerer or a madman!"
So We seized him and his soldiers and hurled them into the sea, and he was blameworthy.
And in Aad, when We sent against them the barren wind.
It left nothing it came upon without turning it to dust.
And in Thamud, when they were told, "Enjoy yourselves for a while."
But they defied the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt struck them while they watched.
They could not rise, nor could they defend themselves.
And the people of Noah before them; they were a defiantly disobedient people.
The sky, We built it with might, and We are ever expanding it.
The earth, We spread it out, and how excellent a spreader We are.
From everything We created pairs, so that you might reflect.
So flee to God. I am a clear warner to you from Him.
Do not set up another god alongside God. I am a clear warner to you from Him.
Likewise, no messenger came to those before them except that they said, "A sorcerer or a madman!"
Did they pass this down to one another? No, they are a transgressing people.
So turn away from them; you are not to blame.
But remind, for reminding benefits the believers.
I did not create the jinn and humankind except to worship Me.
I do not want any provision from them, nor do I want them to feed Me.
God is the Provider, the Possessor of Strength, the Unshakable.
Those who have wronged will have a share of punishment like that of their predecessors, so let them not rush Me.
Woe to those who disbelieve, from their Day which they are promised.
