Ta Ha.
We did not send down the Quran to you to cause you distress.
Only as a reminder for those who fear.
A revelation from the One who created the earth and the highest heavens.
The Most Merciful, established upon the Throne.
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth and whatever is between them and whatever is beneath the soil.
If you speak aloud, He knows the secret and what is even more hidden.
God, there is no god but Him. To Him belong the most beautiful names.
Has the story of Moses reached you?
When he saw a fire, he said to his family, "Stay here. I have spotted a fire. Perhaps I can bring you a torch from it or find guidance at the fire."
When he came to it, he was called, "O Moses!"
"I am your Lord, so remove your sandals. You are in the sacred valley of Tuwa."
"I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed."
"I am God. There is no god but Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance."
"The Hour is coming. I almost keep it hidden so that every soul may be repaid for what it strives for."
"So do not let anyone who disbelieves in it and follows his own desires turn you away from it, or you will be ruined."
"What is that in your right hand, O Moses?"
He said, "It is my staff. I lean on it, and I beat down leaves with it for my sheep, and I have other uses for it."
He said, "Throw it down, O Moses."
So he threw it down, and suddenly it was a serpent, slithering.
He said, "Grab it and do not fear. We will return it to its former state."
"Now draw your hand close to your side, and it will come out white without any disease, another sign."
"This is so We may show you some of Our greatest signs."
"Go to Pharaoh. He has transgressed."
He said, "My Lord, expand my chest for me.
And ease my task for me.
And untie the knot from my tongue.
So they may understand my speech.
And appoint for me a helper from my family.
Aaron, my brother.
Strengthen my back through him.
And let him share in my task.
So that we may glorify You abundantly.
And remember You abundantly.
You have always been watching over us.
He said, "You have been granted your request, Moses."
We had already favored you another time.
When We inspired your mother with what was inspired.
"Put him in a chest and cast it into the river. The river will wash him ashore, and an enemy of Mine and an enemy of his will take him." I cast upon you love from Me, so that you would be raised under My eye.
When your sister walked by and said, "Shall I direct you to someone who will nurse him?" So We returned you to your mother, that her eyes might be cooled and she would not grieve. You killed a man, but We saved you from distress and tested you thoroughly. Then you stayed years among the people of Midian. Then you came at the appointed time, Moses.
I have crafted you for Myself.
Go, you and your brother, with My signs, and do not slacken in remembering Me.
Go, both of you, to Pharaoh. He has transgressed.
Speak to him gently, so that perhaps he may remember or fear.
They said, "Our Lord, we fear that he will act rashly against us or that he will transgress."
He said, "Do not fear. I am with you both, hearing and seeing."
Go to him and say, "We are messengers of your Lord, so send the Children of Israel with us and do not torment them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord. Peace be upon whoever follows guidance."
"It has been revealed to us that punishment awaits whoever denies and turns away."
He said, "Then who is your Lord, Moses?"
He said, "Our Lord is the One who gave everything its form, then guided it."
He said, "Then what about the former generations?"
He said, "Knowledge of them is with my Lord in a record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets."
He who made the earth a cradle for you and traced pathways through it for you and sent down water from the sky. With it We brought forth pairs of diverse plants.
Eat and graze your livestock. In that are signs for people of understanding.
From it We created you, to it We will return you, and from it We will bring you out once more.
We showed him all Our signs, but he denied and refused.
He said, "Have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, Moses?"
"We will surely bring you magic like it. So set an appointment between us and you that neither we nor you will fail to keep, at a neutral place."
He said, "Your appointment is the Day of Festival, and let the people be gathered mid-morning."
Pharaoh turned away, gathered his schemes, then came.
Moses said to them, "Woe to you! Do not fabricate lies against God, or He will destroy you with punishment. Whoever fabricates has already failed."
They disputed their affair among themselves and conferred in secret.
They said, "These two are magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and do away with your exemplary way of life."
"So unite your schemes, then come forward in a row. Whoever prevails today will succeed."
They said, "Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw."
He said, "No, you throw." Then suddenly their ropes and staffs appeared to him, through their magic, as if they were slithering.
Moses felt fear within himself.
We said, "Do not be afraid. You will be supreme."
Throw what is in your right hand, and it will swallow what they have made. What they have made is only a magician's trick, and the magician never succeeds wherever he goes.
The magicians fell down in prostration. They said, "We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."
He said, "You believed in him before I gave you permission? He must be your master who taught you magic. I will cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and crucify you on the trunks of palm trees. Then you will know which of us is more severe in punishment and more lasting."
They said, "We will never prefer you over the clear proofs that have come to us, nor over Him who created us. So decree whatever you will decree. You can only decree for this worldly life."
We have believed in our Lord so that He may forgive us our sins and the magic you forced us to practice. God is better and more lasting.
Whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal, for him is Hell, where he will neither die nor live.
But whoever comes to Him as a believer, having done righteous deeds, for them are the highest ranks.
Gardens of Eternity, beneath which rivers flow, where they will dwell forever. That is the reward of those who purify themselves.
We revealed to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants and strike for them a dry path through the sea. Do not fear being overtaken, and do not be afraid."
Pharaoh pursued them with his armies, and the sea overwhelmed them with all that it overwhelmed.
Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide them.
O Children of Israel, We saved you from your enemy, promised to meet you at the right side of the mountain, and sent down upon you manna and quails.
Eat from the good things We have provided you, but do not transgress in it or My wrath will descend upon you. Whoever My wrath descends upon has truly fallen.
I am truly Forgiving to whoever repents, believes, does righteous deeds, and then stays guided.
"What made you rush ahead of your people, Moses?"
He said, "They are following in my footsteps. I rushed to You, my Lord, so that You would be pleased."
He said, "We have tested your people in your absence, and the Samaritan has led them astray."
Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "My people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Did the time seem too long for you, or did you want wrath from your Lord to descend upon you, so you broke your promise to me?"
They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our own choice, but we were burdened with loads of the people's ornaments, so we threw them in, and so did the Samaritan."
Then he produced for them a calf, a body that lowed. They said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot."
Did they not see that it could not return a word to them and had no power to harm or benefit them?
Aaron had told them before, "My people, you are only being tested by this. Your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my command."
They said, "We will not stop devoting ourselves to it until Moses returns to us."
He said, "Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray,
From following me? Did you disobey my command?"
He said, "Son of my mother, do not seize me by my beard or my head. I feared you would say, 'You divided the Children of Israel and did not heed my word.'"
He said, "What is your story, Samaritan?"
He said, "I saw what they did not see. I grabbed a handful from the messenger's trace and threw it in. This is what my soul enticed me to do."
He said, "Go! For you in this life is to say, 'Do not touch me.' You have an appointment that will not fail you. Now look at your god that you devoted yourself to. We will burn it and scatter it completely into the sea."
Your only god is God, there is no god but Him. His knowledge encompasses everything.
This is how We relate to you accounts of what has passed, and We have given you from Us a reminder.
Whoever turns away from it will carry a burden on the Day of Resurrection.
They will remain in it forever, and what a terrible load for them on the Day of Resurrection.
The Day the horn is blown, We will gather the criminals that Day, blue.
They will whisper among themselves, "You stayed only ten days."
We know best what they will say when the most perceptive of them says, "You stayed only a day."
They ask you about the mountains. Say, "My Lord will blast them into scattered dust."
He will leave them as a flat, barren plain.
You will see no curve in it, no ridge.
That Day they will follow the caller without deviation. All voices will be hushed before the Most Merciful, and you will hear nothing but a faint shuffle.
That Day, intercession will not benefit anyone except those whom the Most Merciful permits and whose words He approves.
He knows what is before them and what is behind them, but they cannot encompass Him in knowledge.
All faces will be humbled before the Living, the Sustainer. Ruined is whoever carries wrongdoing.
But whoever does righteous deeds while being a believer will fear no injustice or deprivation.
Thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran and varied within it warnings, so that they might become mindful of God or it might stir in them remembrance.
Exalted is God, the True King. Do not rush with the Quran before its revelation to you is complete, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
We had made a covenant with Adam before, but he forgot, and We found no firm resolve in him.
When We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," they prostrated, except Iblis. He refused.
So We said, "Adam, this is an enemy to you and your wife. Do not let him drive you both out of Paradise, or you will suffer."
You will never go hungry there, nor be naked.
You will never thirst there, nor be scorched by the sun.
Then Satan whispered to him. He said, "Adam, shall I show you the tree of immortality and a kingdom that never decays?"
So they both ate from it, and their nakedness became exposed to them, and they began covering themselves with leaves from Paradise. Adam disobeyed his Lord and went astray.
Then his Lord chose him, turned to him in mercy, and guided him.
He said, "Go down from here, both of you together, enemies to one another. When guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance will not go astray nor suffer."
But whoever turns away from My remembrance will have a miserable life, and We will raise him blind on the Day of Resurrection.
He will say, "My Lord, why have You raised me blind when I used to see?"
He will say, "Just as Our verses came to you and you forgot them, so today you are forgotten."
This is how We repay those who transgress and do not believe in the verses of their Lord. The punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more lasting.
Does it not guide them how many generations We destroyed before them, in whose dwellings they now walk? In that are signs for people of understanding.
Were it not for a word that had already gone forth from your Lord, and an appointed term, punishment would have been inevitable.
So be patient with what they say, and glorify your Lord with praise before sunrise and before sunset. Glorify Him during the hours of the night and at the ends of the day, so that you may find contentment.
Do not let your eyes linger on what We have given some of them to enjoy, the splendor of this worldly life, by which We test them. The provision of your Lord is better and more lasting.
Command your family to pray and be steadfast in it. We do not ask you for provision; We provide for you. The best outcome belongs to those who are mindful of God.
They say, "Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?" Has there not come to them clear proof of what is in the former scriptures?
Had We destroyed them with a punishment before this, they would have said, "Our Lord, if only You had sent us a messenger, we would have followed Your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced."
Say, "Everyone is waiting, so wait. You will come to know who are the people of the straight path and who is guided."
