Alif Lam Ra. A Book We have sent down to you so that you may bring people out of darkness into light, by the permission of their Lord, to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy.
God, to whom belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth. Woe to the disbelievers from a severe punishment.
Those who prefer the life of this world over the Hereafter, who turn others away from God's path and seek to make it crooked, they are far astray.
We have never sent a messenger except in the language of his people, so he could make things clear to them. Then God leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. He is the Almighty, the Wise.
We sent Moses with Our signs: "Bring your people out of darkness into light, and remind them of the days of God." In that are signs for everyone who is patient and grateful.
Moses said to his people, "Remember God's blessing upon you when He saved you from Pharaoh's people, who were inflicting terrible torment on you, slaughtering your sons and sparing your women. In that was a tremendous trial from your Lord."
Your Lord proclaimed, "If you are grateful, I will give you more. But if you are ungrateful, My punishment is severe."
Moses said, "If you and everyone on earth were to disbelieve, God is Self-Sufficient, Praiseworthy."
Has the news not reached you of those before you, the people of Noah, Ad, and Thamud, and those after them? No one knows them except God. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they put their hands to their mouths and said, "We reject what you have been sent with, and we are deeply suspicious of what you are calling us to."
Their messengers said, "Is there doubt about God, the Originator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you to forgive you your sins and delay you until an appointed time." They said, "You are nothing but humans like us. You want to turn us away from what our fathers used to worship. So bring us clear proof."
Their messengers said to them, "We are nothing but humans like you, but God bestows His favor on whomever He wills of His servants. It is not for us to bring you proof except by God's permission. Let the believers put their trust in God."
Why should we not put our trust in God when He has guided us to our paths? We will patiently endure whatever harm you cause us. Let those who trust put their trust in God.
Those who disbelieved said to their messengers, "We will surely drive you out of our land, or you will return to our religion." So their Lord revealed to them, "We will surely destroy the wrongdoers."
We will settle you in the land after them. That is for whoever fears standing before Me and fears My warning.
They sought victory, and every stubborn tyrant was defeated.
Hell awaits him, and he will be given water of festering pus to drink.
He will gulp it down but barely be able to swallow it. Death will come at him from every direction, yet he will not die, and beyond that awaits a crushing punishment.
The likeness of those who disbelieve in their Lord: their deeds are like ashes blown fiercely by the wind on a stormy day. They have no power over anything they acquired. That is the farthest misguidance.
Do you not see that God created the heavens and the earth in truth? If He wills, He can remove you and bring a new creation.
That is not difficult for God.
They will all appear before God, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "We were your followers, so can you shield us from any of God's punishment?" They will say, "Had God guided us, we would have guided you. It is the same for us whether we panic or endure patiently. There is no escape for us."
Satan will say when the matter is decided, "God promised you a true promise, and I promised you but betrayed you. I had no authority over you except that I called you and you answered me. So do not blame me, blame yourselves. I cannot help you, and you cannot help me. I reject your associating me with God before." The wrongdoers will have a painful punishment.
Those who believed and did righteous deeds will be admitted into gardens with rivers flowing beneath them, dwelling there forever by their Lord's permission. Their greeting there will be peace.
Do you not see how God strikes a parable? A good word is like a good tree: its roots are firm and its branches reach the sky.
It yields its fruit every season by its Lord's permission. God strikes parables for people so that they may reflect.
The parable of a corrupt word is like a corrupt tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, having no stability.
God makes firm those who believe with the firm word in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. God leads the wrongdoers astray. God does whatever He wills.
Have you not seen those who exchanged God's blessing for ingratitude and led their people to the dwelling of ruin?
Hell, where they will burn. What a wretched place to settle!
They set up rivals to God to lead others astray from His path. Say, "Enjoy yourselves, for your destination is the Fire."
Tell My servants who believe to establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and openly, before a Day comes when there will be no bargaining and no friendship.
God is the One who created the heavens and the earth, sent down water from the sky, and brought forth fruits as provision for you. He made ships subject to you, sailing through the sea by His command, and He made rivers subject to you.
He made the sun and moon subject to you, constant in their courses, and He made the night and day subject to you.
He gave you something of everything you asked for. If you tried to count God's blessings, you could never enumerate them. The human being is truly unjust and ungrateful.
Remember when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city secure and keep me and my sons from worshiping idols."
"My Lord, they have led many people astray. Whoever follows me belongs with me, and whoever disobeys me, You are Forgiving, Merciful."
"Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in a barren valley by Your Sacred House. Our Lord, let them establish prayer, make the hearts of people yearn toward them, and provide them with fruits so they may be grateful."
"Our Lord, You know what we conceal and what we reveal. Nothing on earth or in heaven is hidden from God."
"Praise be to God, who granted me Ishmael and Isaac in my old age. My Lord truly hears all prayers."
"My Lord, make me one who establishes prayer, and my descendants too. Our Lord, accept my supplication."
"Our Lord, forgive me, my parents, and the believers on the Day when the reckoning takes place."
Do not think that God is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them until a Day when eyes will stare in horror.
Racing forward, heads raised, their gaze not returning to them, their hearts hollow.
Warn the people of the Day when the punishment will come upon them, and those who wronged will say, "Our Lord, give us a brief delay so we may answer Your call and follow the messengers." Did you not swear before that you would never cease?
You lived in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it was made clear to you how We dealt with them, and We set forth examples for you.
They plotted their plots, but their plots are with God, even if their plots were such that mountains would be moved by them.
So do not think that God will break His promise to His messengers. God is Mighty, Possessor of Retribution.
On the Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens as well, and they will emerge before God, the One, the Overpowering.
You will see the criminals that Day bound together in chains.
Their garments of tar, and fire covering their faces.
So that God may repay every soul for what it committed. God is swift in reckoning.
This is a message for humanity, so they may be warned by it, and so they may know that He is One God, and so those with understanding may take heed.
