Nun. By the pen and what they write.
You are not, by the grace of your Lord, insane.
You will have a reward that never ends.
You stand on an exalted standard of character.
Soon you will see, and they will see.
Which of you is the afflicted one.
Your Lord knows best who has strayed from His path, and He knows best who is guided.
So do not obey the deniers.
They wish you would compromise so they could compromise.
Do not obey every worthless habitual swearer.
A slanderer, going about with gossip.
A withholder of good, an aggressor, a sinner.
Brutal, and on top of that, an illegitimate pretender.
Just because he has wealth and children.
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Ancient fables."
We will brand him on the snout.
We have tested them as We tested the owners of the garden when they swore to harvest it at dawn.
They made no exception.
So a disaster from your Lord swept over it while they slept.
By morning it was like a barren wasteland.
They called out to one another at dawn.
"Go early to your crops if you want to harvest."
So they set out, whispering to one another.
"Let no poor person enter it today."
They went early, determined in their resolve.
But when they saw it, they said, "We must be lost."
"No, we have been deprived."
The most reasonable among them said, "Did I not tell you, why do you not glorify God?"
They said, "Glory be to our Lord. We were wrongdoers."
Then they turned on one another, blaming each other.
They said, "Woe to us. We were transgressors."
"Perhaps our Lord will give us something better in its place. To our Lord we turn in hope."
Such is the punishment. But the punishment of the Hereafter is far greater, if only they knew.
For those who are mindful of God, there are Gardens of Bliss with their Lord.
Should We treat those who submit like criminals?
What is wrong with you? How do you judge?
Or do you have a scripture that you study?
Telling you that you can have whatever you choose?
Or do you have oaths binding on Us until the Day of Resurrection that you will have whatever you decide?
Ask them which of them will guarantee that.
Or do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they are truthful.
On the Day when the shin is laid bare and they are called to prostrate, they will not be able.
Their eyes will be downcast, humiliation covering them. They were called to prostrate when they were sound, but they refused.
So leave Me to deal with those who deny this message. We will lead them step by step from where they do not know.
I give them time. My plan is firm.
Or are you asking them for payment, so they are burdened with debt?
Or do they have knowledge of the unseen, so they write it down?
So be patient for the judgment of your Lord, and do not be like the companion of the whale when he called out in distress.
Had grace from his Lord not reached him, he would have been cast onto the barren shore, disgraced.
But his Lord chose him and made him one of the righteous.
Those who disbelieve almost strike you down with their glares when they hear the Reminder, and they say, "He is surely crazy."
But it is nothing less than a reminder to all the worlds.
