O you who believe, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies, showing them affection when they have rejected the truth that has come to you. They drove out the Messenger and yourselves simply because you believe in God, your Lord. If you have gone forth to strive in My cause and seek My pleasure, do not secretly show them affection. I know what you conceal and what you reveal. Whoever among you does this has strayed from the right path.
If they gain the upper hand over you, they will be your enemies and stretch out their hands and tongues against you with harm, and they wish you would disbelieve.
Your relatives and your children will not benefit you. On the Day of Resurrection, He will separate you. God sees everything you do.
You have an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, "We are free of you and what you worship besides God. We reject you, and enmity and hatred have appeared between us and you forever, until you believe in God alone." But not Abraham's words to his father: "I will surely ask forgiveness for you, though I have no power to protect you from God at all." Our Lord, in You we place our trust, to You we turn, and to You is the final return.
Our Lord, do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord. You are the Almighty, the Wise.
You have an excellent example in them for anyone who hopes in God and the Last Day. Whoever turns away, God is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.
Perhaps God will bring about affection between you and those of them you now consider enemies. God is All-Powerful. God is Forgiving, Merciful.
God does not forbid you from being kind and just to those who have not fought you over religion and have not driven you from your homes. God loves those who are just.
God only forbids you from allying with those who have fought you over religion, driven you from your homes, and supported your expulsion. Whoever allies with them, those are the wrongdoers.
O you who believe, when believing women come to you as emigrants, test them. God knows best their faith. If you find them to be believers, do not return them to the disbelievers. They are not lawful for them, nor are they lawful for these women. Give their former husbands what they had spent. There is no blame on you if you marry them, provided you give them their due compensation. Do not hold on to marriage ties with disbelieving women, and ask for what you have spent, and let them ask for what they have spent. This is God's judgment; He judges between you. God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
If any of your wives desert you to the disbelievers, and you later gain the upper hand, give those whose wives have left them the equivalent of what they had spent. Be mindful of God, in whom you believe.
O Prophet, when believing women come to you pledging that they will not associate anything with God, nor steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill their children, nor bring forth a slander they have invented between their hands and feet, nor disobey you in what is right, then accept their pledge and ask God to forgive them. God is Forgiving, Merciful.
O you who believe, do not ally yourselves with a people who have incurred God's wrath. They have despaired of the Hereafter, just as the disbelievers have despaired of those in the graves.
