Surah “The Event, The Inevitable, That Which is Coming”

as rendered by A.L. Bilal Muhammad et al (2018) — 96 verses

When the inevitable event comes to pass
Then will no soul entertain falsehood concerning its coming
Many will it bring low, many will it exalt
When the earth will be shaken to its depths
And the mountains will be crumbled to atoms
Becoming dust scattered abroad
And you will be sorted out into three classes
The companions of the right, what are the companions of the right
And the companions of the left, what are the companions of the left
And those foremost, will be foremost
These will be those nearest to God
In gardens of bliss
A number of people from those of the past
And a few from those of later times
On thrones encrusted
Reclining on them, facing each other
Around them will be youth of perpetual innocence
With goblets, bowls, and cups filled from clear-flowing fountains
No after-ache will they receive from it, nor will they suffer intoxication
And fruits, any they may select
And the meat of fowl, any that they may desire
And companions with beautiful eyes
Like pearls well guarded
A reward for the deeds of their past
Neither frivolousness will they hear therein, nor any taint of harm
Only the saying, “Peace, peace.
The companions of the right hand, what are the companions of the right hand
They will be among lotus trees without thorns
Among Talh trees with flowers piled one above another
In shade long extended
By water flowing constantly
And fruit in abundance
Whose season is not limited, nor prevented
And on thrones, raised high
We have created their companions of a special creation
And made them virgin - pure
Beloved, equal in age
For the companions of the right hand
A number from those in the past
And a number from those of later times
The companions of the left hand, who will be the companions of the left hand
They will be in the middle of a fierce blast of fire and in boiling water
And in the shades of black smoke
Nothing to refresh, or to please them
Because they were accustomed to indulging, before that, with their wealth
And insisted on great harm
And they used to say, “What, when we die and become dust and bones, will we then indeed be raised up again
“And our ancestors?
Say, “Yes, those in the past and those of later times
“All will certainly be gathered together, for the meeting appointed for a day well-known
“Then will you truly, O you who go wrong by treating truth as falsehood
“You will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum
“Then and there you will fill your insides
“And drink boiling water on top of it
“Indeed you will drink like thirsty camels.
Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Punishment
It is We Who have created you. Why will you not witness the truth
Do you then see that which you throw out
Is it you who create it, or are We the Creators
We have decreed death for you, and We are not to be stopped
From changing your forms, and creating you in forms that you know not
And you certainly already know the first form of creation. Why then do you not praise Him
Do you see the seed that you sow in the ground
Is it you who cause it to grow, or are We the cause
Were it Our will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and you would be left in wonderment
Saying, “We are indeed left with debts
“Indeed we are shut out.
Do you see the water which you drink
Do you bring it down from the cloud or do We
If it were Our will, We could make it salty. So why do you not give thanks
Do you see the fire which you kindle
Is it you who causes the tree to grow which feeds the fire, or do We cause it to grow
We have made it a memorial, an article of comfort, and convenience for the denizens of deserts
Then glorify with praises the name of your Lord, the Supreme
Furthermore, I call to witness the setting of the stars
And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if you only knew
That this is indeed a Quran most honorable
In a book well guarded
Which none will touch but those who are clean
A revelation from the Guardian Evolver of all the systems of knowledge
Is it such a message that you would hold in light esteem
And have you made it your life to declare it false
Then why do you not intervene when the soul reaches the throat
But you just stand there looking on
But We are nearer to him than you, but you see not
Then why do you not, if you are exempt from account
Call back the soul, if you are truthful
Then if he is of those nearest to God
There is for him rest and satisfaction, and a garden of pleasure
And if he is of the companions of the right hand
Then for him is the salutation, “Peace be unto you,” from the companions of the right hand
And if he is of those who treat truth as false, and who go wrong
For him is entertainment with boiling water
And burning in hellfire
Indeed, this is the truth with certainty
So glorify with praises the name of your Lord, the Supreme
