Surah “The Private Apartments, The Inner Apartments, The Chambers”

as rendered by Talal Itani & AI (2025) — 18 verses

O you who believe, do not put yourselves ahead of God and His Messenger. Be mindful of God. God is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
O you who believe, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, and do not speak loudly to him as you speak loudly to one another, lest your deeds be rendered worthless while you are unaware.
Those who lower their voices in the presence of God's Messenger are the ones whose hearts God has tested for reverence. For them is forgiveness and a great reward.
Those who call out to you from behind the private chambers, most of them do not understand.
Had they been patient until you came out to them, it would have been better for them. God is Forgiving, Merciful.
O you who believe, if a corrupt person brings you news, verify it, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and then become regretful over what you have done.
Know that among you is the Messenger of God. If he were to obey you in many matters, you would suffer hardship. But God has made faith beloved to you and beautified it in your hearts, and He has made hateful to you disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience. Those are the rightly guided.
A favor and blessing from God. God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
If two groups of believers fight each other, make peace between them. But if one of them transgresses against the other, then fight the one that transgresses until it returns to the command of God. If it returns, then make peace between them with justice and be fair. God loves those who are fair.
The believers are but brothers, so make peace between your brothers. Be mindful of God, so that you may receive mercy.
O you who believe, let no group ridicule another group, for they may be better than them. And let no women ridicule other women, for they may be better than them. Do not insult one another, and do not call each other by offensive nicknames. Wretched is the name of wickedness after faith. Those who do not repent are the wrongdoers.
O you who believe, avoid much suspicion, for some suspicion is sin. Do not spy on one another, and do not backbite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it. Be mindful of God. God is ever accepting of repentance, Most Merciful.
O people, We created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another. The most noble of you in the sight of God is the most righteous. God is All-Knowing, All-Aware.
The Bedouins say, "We believe." Say, "You have not believed. Rather say, 'We have submitted,' for faith has not yet entered your hearts. But if you obey God and His Messenger, He will not diminish anything from your deeds. God is Forgiving, Most Merciful."
The believers are only those who believe in God and His Messenger, then never doubt, and strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of God. Those are the truthful ones.
Say, "Are you informing God about your religion, when God knows everything in the heavens and everything on earth? God is All-Knowing of all things."
They consider it a favor to you that they have submitted. Say, "Do not consider your submission a favor to me. Rather, God has done you a favor by guiding you to faith, if you are truthful."
God knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth. God sees everything you do.
