Surah “Mary”

as rendered by The Wise Quran Project — 98 verses

Kaf.Ha.Ya.'Ayn.Sad.
A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zachariah,
When he called his Lord, a secret call.
He said, 'My Lord! Indeed I, the bone of me has grown weak, and the head has flared with grey hair, and I have not been unprosperous in calling on You, my Lord!
And indeed I, I fear the heirs behind me, and my wife is barren; so give me an heir from you,
To be my heir and to inherit from the family of Jacob, and make him, my Lord! Pleasing.'
'O Zachariah! Indeed We, We give you glad tidings of a boy, his name is John. We did not make a namesake for him before.'
He said, 'My Lord! How will there be for me a boy, and my wife is barren, and certainly, I have reached advanced old age?'
He said, 'Thus said your Lord, "It is easy for Me, and certainly, I created you before, and you were nothing."'
He said, 'My Lord! Make a sign for me.' He said, 'Your sign is that you will not speak to the people three nights sound.'
Then he went out to his people from the chamber, then he inspired to them to glorify early morning and evening.
O John! Take the book with strength. And We gave him judgment, a child,
And affection from Us, and purity; and he was pious,
And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a tyrant, a rebel.
And peace be on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he will be raised alive.
And mention in the book Mary, when she withdrew from her family to an eastern place.
Then she took a veil against them; then We sent Our spirit to her; then he made himself similar to a sound mortal for her.
She said, 'Indeed I, I seek refuge with the Merciful from you, if you are pious.'
He said, 'I am only a messenger of your Lord that I may give a pure son to you.'
She said, 'How will there be for me a boy, and a mortal did not touch me, and I am not a prostitute?'
He said, 'Thus said your Lord, "It is easy for Me. And that We may make him a sign for the people, and mercy from Us. And it is a completed affair."'
So she conceived him, then she withdrew with him to a remote place.
Then the labour pains came to her at the trunk of the palm tree. She said, 'O I wish I had died before this, and was completely forgotten.'
Then he called out to her from beneath her that, 'Do not grieve, certainly, your Lord has put a stream beneath you.
And shake towards you the trunk of the palm tree, it will make fresh, ripe date fruits drop on you.
So eat and drink and cool eye, then if you definitely see of the mortal, anyone, then say, "Indeed I, I have vowed a fast to the Merciful, so I will not speak to a human being today."'
Then she came to her people with him, carrying him. They said, 'O Mary! Surely, certainly, you have done an unheard-of thing.
O sister of Aaron! Your father was not evil a man, and your mother was not a prostitute.'
Then she pointed to him. They said, 'How are we to speak to one who is in the cradle, a child?'
He said, 'Indeed, I am a servant of God; He gave me the book, and He made me a prophet,
And He has made me blessed wherever I am; and He has instructed me with the prayer and the alms so long as I am alive,
And dutiful to my mother, and He did not make me an unprosperous tyrant;
And peace be on me on the day I was born, and on the day I die, and on the day I will be raised alive.'
That is, Jesus, the son of Mary, the speech of truth, the one who they doubt concerning him.
It is not for God to take a son. Glory be to Him. When He decides an affair, then He only says to it, 'Be,' then it is.
And indeed, God is my Lord and your Lord, so serve Him; this is a straight way.
Then the parties disagreed between them. So woe to those who disbelieved, from the assembly of a great day.
Hear with them and see on the day they come to Us; but the wrongdoers are today in clear error.
And warn them of the Day of Regret, when the affair has been decided. And they are in heedlessness, and they do not believe.
Indeed We, We will inherit the earth and whoever is upon it, and to Us they will be returned.
And mention in the book Abraham; indeed, he was truthful, a prophet.
When he said to his father, 'O my father! Why do you serve what does not hear and does not see and does not avail you anything?
O my father! Indeed I, certainly there came to me of knowledge, what did not come to you; so follow me, let me guide you to a level way.
O my father! Do not serve the devil; indeed, the devil is a rebel to the Merciful.
O my father! Indeed I, I fear that a punishment from the Merciful will touch you, then you would be a patron to the devil.'
He said, 'Do you detest my gods, O Abraham? Surely, if you do not desist, surely, I will definitely stone you; and depart from me for a time.'
He said, 'Peace be on you, soon I will seek my Lord’s forgiveness for you; indeed, He is affectionate with me.
And I will withdraw from you and what you call on besides God, and I will call on my Lord, it may be that I will not be unprosperous in calling on my Lord.'
Then when he had withdrawn from them and what they served besides God, We gave Isaac and Jacob to him, and each We made a prophet;
And We gave them of Our mercy, and We made a high tongue of truth for them.
And mention in the book Moses; indeed, he was sincere, and he was a messenger, a prophet.
And We called out to him from the right side of the mount; and We brought him near in secret discourse,
And We gave to him, from Our mercy, his brother Aaron, a prophet.
And mention in the book Ishmael; indeed, he was true in promise and he was a messenger, a prophet;
And he used to bid his people the prayer and the alms and he was with his Lord pleasing.
And mention in the book Idris; Indeed, he was truthful, a prophet;
And We raised him to a high place.
Those are the ones on whom God bestowed favour among the prophets among the offspring of Adam, and among those who We carried with Noah, and among the offspring of Abraham and Israel, and among those who We guided and We chose. When the signs of the Merciful are recited to them, they fall down prostrating and weeping.
Then successors succeeded after them; they neglected the prayer and they followed desires, so soon they will meet error,
Except he who repented and believed and did right; then those will enter the garden, and they will not be wronged a thing,
Gardens of Eden which the Merciful promised His servants in the unseen; indeed it, His promise, is coming.
They will not hear foolish talk in it except, 'Peace;' and for them is their provision in it early morning and evening;
That is the garden which We will make Our servants inherit, he who is pious.
We do not descend except by the command of your Lord; For Him is what is before us and what is behind us and what is between that; and your Lord is not forgetful,
The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between both of them. So serve Him and be patient in His service. Do you know a namesake for Him?
And man says, 'When I die, will I surely soon be brought forth alive?'
And does man not remember that We, We created him before and he was nothing?
So by your Lord, surely We will definitely gather them and the devils; then surely, We will definitely bring them around hell kneeling.
Then surely, We will definitely draw out from each sect whoever of them was most intense in insolence against the Merciful.
Then surely, We know best those who they are most worthy to burn in it.
And none of you except will come to it. It is upon your Lord a completed determination.
Then We will save those who feared; and We will leave the wrongdoers in it kneeling.
And when Our signs, clear proofs, are recited to them, those who disbelieved say to those who believed, 'Which of the two parties is better in position and better in assembly?'
And how many a generation have We destroyed before them? They were better in furnishings and appearance.
Say, 'Whoever is in error, then let the Merciful extend for him, extending.’ Until when they see what they are promised, either the punishment or the Hour, then soon they will know he who he is worse in position and weaker in army.
And God gives those who are guided more guidance. And the lasting good works are better with your Lord in reward and better in yield.
So have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our signs, and said, 'Surely, I will definitely be given wealth and children.’?
Has he seen the unseen or has he taken a covenant with the Merciful?
Not so, soon We will write down what he says and We will extend for him of the punishment, extending.
And We will inherit what he says from him and he will come to Us alone.
And they took gods besides God that they may be might for them.
Not so, soon they will disbelieve in their service and they will be an opponent against them.
Did you not see that We, We have sent the devils against the disbelievers? They incite them, inciting.
So do not hasten against them. We only count for them, counting.
On the day We will gather those who fear to the Merciful, a delegation.
And We will drive the sinners to hell, a watering place.
They will not control intercession, except he who took a covenant with the Merciful.
And they said, 'The Merciful took a son.'
Surely, certainly you have committed a terrible thing.
The heavens almost rend from it, and the earth split, and the mountains fall down breaking,
That they call on a son for the Merciful.
And it is not appropriate for the Merciful to take a son.
All who are in the heavens and the earth not except come to the Merciful a servant;
Surely, certainly He has numbered them and counted them, counting,
And all of them will come to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.
Indeed, those who believed and did the good works, soon the Merciful will make for them love.
So We only made it easy in your language that you may give those who fear glad tidings with it, and that you may warn violently disputatious people with it.
And how many a generation have We destroyed before them? Can you perceive anyone of them or hear a sound for them?
