Surah “Children of Israel, The Israelites”

as rendered by The Wise Quran Project — 111 verses

Glory be to the one who made His servant travel by night, by night from the sacred mosque to the farthest mosque, the one which We put blessing around it, to show him of Our signs. Indeed He, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
And We gave Moses the book and We made it guidance for the children of Israel that: 'Do not take a trustee besides Me.'
Offspring of those who We carried with Noah; indeed, he was a grateful servant.
And We decreed to the children of Israel in the book: 'Surely, you will definitely work corruption in the earth twice, and surely you will definitely exalt yourselves, great exalting.'
So when the promise of the first of both of them came, We sent against you servants for Us, possessors of strong valour, then they pried around the cracks of the homes; and it was a promise to be done.
Then We returned to you the attack against them, and We provided you with wealth and sons, and We made you more in company.
If you do good, you do good for your souls; and if you do evil, then for it. So when the promise of the last came, to injure your faces and to enter the mosque as they entered it the first time, and to destroy what they had seized, a destruction.
It may be your Lord that He may have mercy on you; and if you return, We will return; and We have made hell a prison for the disbelievers.
Indeed, this Quran guides to that which it is most straight and it gives the believers, those who do the good works, glad tidings that for them is a great reward;
And that those who do not believe in the hereafter, We have prepared a painful punishment for them.
And man calls for the evil in his calling for the good; and man is hasty.
And We made the night and the day two signs, then We blotted out the sign of the night and We made the sign of the day to see, that you may seek grace from your Lord, and that you may know the number of the years and the reckoning; and everything We have explained it in detail, a detailed explanation.
And every man We have made his omen cleave to him in his neck; and We will bring forth a book for him on the Day of Resurrection, he will receive it spread out.
Read your book, your soul has sufficed for a reckoner against you today.
Whoever is guided, then he is guided only for his soul; and whoever has gone astray, then he goes astray only against it; and no burdened one will bear the burden of another; and We do not punish until We send a messenger.
And when We desire to destroy a town, We command its affluent ones, then they disobey in it; then due is the speech against it, then We destroy it, a destruction.
And how many of the generations have We destroyed after Noah? And your Lord is enough aware of, sees the sins of His servants.
Whoever desires the transitory life, We hastened for him in it what We will for who We desire, then We have made hell for him; he will burn in it, expelled, blameworthy.
And whoever desired the hereafter, and strove for it, its striving, and he is a believer, then those, their striving is worthy of thanks.
Each, these and these, We provide from the gift of your Lord; and the gift of your Lord is not restricted.
See how We gave preference to some of them over some; and surely, the hereafter is greater in degrees and greater in preference.
Do not make another god with God, then you sit forsaken, blameworthy.
And your Lord has decreed that you not serve except Him; and with the parents, goodness. If one of them or both of them definitely reach the old age with you, then do not say to them, 'Uff!' And do not chide them, and say to them noble speech.
And lower the wing of humility from mercy to them and say, 'My Lord! Have mercy on them as they brought me up a little one.'
Your Lord knows best what is in your souls. If you are righteous, then indeed, He is forgiving to those who frequently repent.
And give the relative his due and the poor person and the wayfarer; and do not waste, wasting.
Indeed, the wasteful are the brothers of the devils; and the devil is ungrateful to his Lord.
And if you definitely turn away from them seeking mercy from your Lord, hoping for it, then say easy speech to them.
And do not make your hand fettered to your neck, and do not extend it all the extension, then you sit stripped off, blameworthy.
Indeed, your Lord extends the provision to whom He wills and He straitens. Indeed, He is aware of, sees His servants.
And do not kill your children from fear of poverty; We, We provide for them and you. Indeed, their killing is a great sin.
And do not draw near fornication; Indeed, it is an immorality, and evil a way.
And do not kill the soul which God has forbidden except with the right; and whoever is killed unjustly, then certainly, We have made authority for his heir; but then he should not be extravagant in the killing; indeed, he is helped.
And do not draw near the wealth of the orphan, except with that which it is best until he reaches his strength. And fulfil the covenant; indeed, the covenant will be enquired of.
And give the measure to the full when you measure, and weigh with the straight balance; that is good and best in interpretation.
And do not follow what you have no knowledge of; indeed, the hearing and the eye and the heart, all of those will be about it enquired of.
And do not walk in the earth exultantly; indeed, you will not make a hole in the earth, and you will not reach the mountains in height.
All that its evil is hated with your Lord.
That is among what your Lord has inspired to you of wisdom. And do not make another god with God, then be thrown in hell, expelled, blameworthy.
So has your Lord chosen the sons for you and He took females from the angels? Indeed you, surely, you say great speech.
And surely, certainly We have turned about in this Quran that they may remember and it increases them not except in aversion.
Say, 'If there were gods with Him, as they say, then surely, they would seek a way to the possessor of the throne.’
Glory be to Him and exalted is He above what they say, great exaltedness.
The seven heavens and the earth and those who are in them glorify Him. And there is not a thing except it glorifies with His praise, but you do not understand their glorification. Indeed, He is clement, forgiving.
And when you read the Quran, We place a hidden veil between you and those who do not believe in the hereafter.
And We place coverings on their hearts lest they understand it, and in their ears, dulness. And when you mention your Lord alone in the Quran, they turn back upon their backs in aversion.
We know best what they listen for when they listen to you; and when they discourse secretly, when the wrongdoers say, 'You follow not except a bewitched man.'
See how they struck the similitudes for you, then they went astray, so they are not capable of a way.
And they said, 'When we are bones and remains? Will we indeed, surely be raised, a new creation?'
Say, 'Be you stones, or iron,
Or a creation of what is great in your breasts.' Then soon they will say, 'Who will cause us to return?' Say, 'The one who originated you the first time;' Then soon they will shake their heads at you, and they will say, 'When is it?' Say, 'It may be that it is near.'
On the day He will call you, then you will respond with His praise, and you will think you have not tarried except a little.
And say to My servants to say that which it is best. Indeed, the devil incites between them; indeed the devil is a clear enemy to man.
Your Lord knows you best; if He wills, He will have mercy on you or if He wills, He will punish you. And We have not sent you as a trustee over them.
And your Lord knows best who is in the heavens and the earth. And surely, certainly We gave preference to some of the prophets over some. And We gave David Psalms.
Say, 'Call on those besides Him who you claimed. So they do not have power to remove the harm from you nor to alter.’
Those, those who they call on seek the means to their Lord, which of them is nearest; and they hope for His mercy and they fear His punishment; indeed, the punishment of your Lord is that which one should be cautious of.
And there is no town except We will destroy it before the Day of Resurrection or punish it, a severe punishment; that is written in the book.
And what prevented Us from sending the signs? Except that the former people called them lies. And We gave Thamud the she-camel to see, then they wronged her. And We do not send the signs except to frighten.
And when We said to you, 'Indeed, your Lord has encompassed mankind.' And We made the vision which We showed you and the cursed tree in the Quran not except a trial for mankind; and We frighten them, but then it increases them not except in great immoderation.
And when We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam.' Then they prostrated except Iblis. He said, 'Shall I prostrate to one who You created, clay?'
He said, 'Have you seen this one who You have honoured over me? Surely, if You defer me until the Day of Resurrection, surely, I will definitely destroy his offspring except a few.'
He said, 'Go, then whoever followed you among them, then indeed, hell is your recompense, an ample recompense.
And incite whoever you are able among them with your voice; and drive them with your horses and your footmen; and become a partner with them in the wealth and the children; and promise them.' And the devil promises them not except deception.
'Indeed, My servants, you have no authority over them.’ And your Lord has sufficed for a trustee.
Your Lord is the one who drives the ships for you in the sea that you may seek of His grace; indeed, He is compassionate with you.
And when the harm in the sea touches you, those who you call on go astray except Him; then when He saves you to the land, you turn away; and man is ungrateful.
So are you secure from Him causing the side of the land to sink with you or sending upon you a storm of stones? Then you will not find a trustee for you.
Or are you secure from Him returning you in it another time, then sending a smasher of the wind upon you, then drowning you because you disbelieved? Then you will not find a follower for you against Us in it.
And surely, certainly We have honoured the children of Adam, and We have carried them in the land and the sea, and We have provided them of the good things, and We gave preference to them over many of those who We created, preference.
On the day We will call all people with their model, then whoever is given his book in his right hand, then those will read their book; and they will not be wronged a filament.
And whoever is blind in this, then he will be blind in the hereafter; and more astray in way.
And indeed, they were almost surely tempting you from that which We inspired to you, that you may forge against Us other than it, and then surely, they would have taken you for a friend.
And if not that We made you firm, surely, certainly you would have almost leant towards them a little in something:
Then surely, We would have made you taste the double of life and the double of death; then you will not find a helper for you against Us.
And indeed, they were almost surely inciting you from the land, that they may drive you out of it; and then they would not tarry in opposing you except a little.
The course of those who certainly, We sent before you of Our messengers; and you will not find alteration to Our course.
Be steadfast in the prayer to the setting of the sun until the darkness of the night; and the Quran of the dawn, indeed, the Quran of the dawn is witnessed.
And of the night, then keep a vigil in it, supererogatory for you. It may be that your Lord will raise you in a praiseworthy position.
And say, 'My Lord! Make me enter an entrance of truth; and make me go forth an exit of truth; and make a helper, an authority for me from you.'
And say, 'The truth came and falsehood vanished. Indeed, falsehood is bound to vanish.'
And We send down of the Quran what it is healing and mercy to the believers; and it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.
And when We bestow favour on man, he turns away and he puts his side far away, and when the evil touches him, he is in despair.
Say, 'Each works according to his manner; so your Lord knows best he who he is better guided in way.'
And they ask you about the spirit. Say, 'The spirit is of the affair of my Lord, and you have been given of the knowledge not except a little.'
And surely if We will, We would surely, definitely take away that which We have inspired to you; then you would not find a trustee for you against Us in it,
Except mercy from your Lord. Indeed, His grace is great upon you.
Say, 'Surely, if mankind and the jinn gathered together on that they bring the like of this Quran, they will not bring its like, even if some of them were assistants to some.'
And surely, certainly We have turned about for mankind in this Quran of every similitude, then most of mankind refused except disbelief.
And they said, 'We will not believe you, until you dig up for us a spring from the earth;
Or there be for you a garden of palms and grapes, then you make the rivers flow forth in the midst of it, streaming;
Or you make the sky fall, as you claimed, on us in pieces; or you bring God and the angels face to face;
Or there be for you a house of embellishment; or you ascend into the heaven; and we will not believe your ascending until you send down a book to us, we will read it.' Say, 'Glory be to my Lord. Am I except a mortal messenger?'
And what prevented the people from believing when the guidance came to them? Except that they said, 'Has God sent a mortal messenger?'
Say, 'If there were angels in the earth walking at ease, surely We would send down an angel messenger to them from the heaven.'
Say, 'God has sufficed for a witness between me and you; indeed, He is aware of, sees His servants.'
And whoever God guides, then he is the guided; and whoever He causes to go astray, then you will not find patrons for them besides Him. And We will gather them on the Day of Resurrection on their faces, blind and dumb and deaf. Their refuge is hell; whenever it dies out, We give them more blaze.
That is their recompense because they disbelieved in Our signs, and said, 'When we are bones and remains? Will we indeed, surely be raised, a new creation?'
And did they not see that God, the one who created the heavens and the earth is able upon creating the like of them? And He has made a term for them, there is no doubt concerning it; then the wrongdoers refused except disbelief.
Say, 'If you, you control the treasures of the mercy of my Lord, then surely you would withhold from fear of the spending.’ And man is stingy.
And surely, certainly We gave Moses nine signs, clear proofs; so ask the children of Israel. When he came to them, then Pharaoh said to him, 'Indeed I, surely I think you, O Moses! Bewitched.'
He said, 'Surely, certainly you knew none sent down these insights except the Lord of the heavens and the earth; and indeed I, surely I surely think you, O Pharaoh! Destroyed.'
And he desired to incite them from the land; then We drowned him and those who were with him all together.
And We said after him to the children of Israel, 'Dwell in the land; then when the promise of the hereafter comes, We will bring you gathered.'
And with the truth We sent it down, and with the truth it descended. And We have not sent you except as an announcer of glad tidings and a warner.
And a Quran, We have divided it, that you may read it to the people during tarrying; and We sent it down, a sending down.'
Say, 'Believe in it, or do not believe; indeed, those who were given the knowledge before it, when it is recited to them, they fall to the chins prostrating.
And they say, "Glory be to our Lord. Indeed, the promise of our Lord is surely to be done."
And they fall to the chins weeping, and it gives them more humility.'
Say, 'Call on God or call on the Merciful, whichever you call on; then for Him are the best names.’ And do not be loud in your prayer nor be silent in it, and seek a way between that.
And say, 'Praise is for God, the one who did not take a son, and has no partner in the kingdom, and has no patron from humility.' And magnify Him, magnifying.
