They were only commanded to worship God, devoting their faith sincerely to Him as upright monotheists, and to establish prayer and give charity. That is the upright religion.
Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, dwelling there forever. They are the worst of creation.
Those who believed and did righteous deeds, they are the best of creation.
Their reward with their Lord is gardens of eternal residence, beneath which rivers flow, dwelling there forever. God is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. That is for whoever stands in awe of his Lord.
