Woe to the short changers
Those who when measuring their demand of men, expect in full
And when giving to them by measure or by weight, they impart a loss.
Do they not suppose that they are to stand resurrected—
for a transcendent day?
A day when humankind stand before the Rabb of all Realms.
No! Indeed, the record of the depraved is assuredly in Sijjin
And what defines for you what Sijjin is?
an engraved record.
Woe that day to the truth-beliers
Those who deny the Day of Surrender and Reckoning.
And none denies it except every sinful transgressor.
When OUR verses are recited to him, he says, “Fables of the earlier peoples.”
Certainly not! On the contrary, what they were earning has reigned over their hearts.
No! Surely, on that day they shall be the ones shut out from their Rabb.
Then indeed, they will be the sure fuel of Jaḥīm.
Then it will be said, “This is that which you were calling false.”
No! Indeed, the record of the virtuous is assuredly in Illiyin
And what defines for you what Illiyun is?
an engraved record.
The ones granted proximity [to God] witness it
Surely, the virtuous are assuredly in bliss
upon couches, looking on.
You will discern on their faces, the radiance of bliss.
They will be slaked from a wine, pure and sealed—
The last of it is [the fragrance of] musk. And for the sake of that— let the aspirants aspire
And its blend is of Tasneem—
A spring by which drink the ones granted proximity [to God].
Verily, the ones who flouted divine guidance used to wonder at the ones who had embraced Faith.
When they passed by them, they would wink at one another.
And when they returned to their people, they returned savoring [what they did].
And whenever they looked at them, they said, “Surely these people are lost for sure,”
Even while they were not sent to be their keepers.
So, today, those who had believed, wonder at the disbelievers
On their couches, looking on
Have not the disbelievers been given their just due for what they used to do?
